Secretary General of AIPA

The National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has nominated Mrs. Nguyen Tuong Van to be a candidate for the 5th Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) from 2019-2022. The General Assembly acknowledged the nomination during the 40th AIPA General Assembly held from 25-30 of August 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Mrs. Nguyen Tuong Van started her parliamentary career in 1995 as an officer of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Viet Nam National Assembly Office. During her parliamentary journey, she has been the Head of the Asia-Pacific Division, Head of the Europe-Africa Division, Head of the Multilateral Cooperation and General Research Division, and recently, the Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Departement in charge of international and regional inter-parliamentary forums including AIPA, IPU, APPF, ASEP, APA.

Mrs. Nguyen Tuong Van has actively contributed and been involved in the development of AIPA since the 18th General Assembly in 1997, as well as seminars and conferences organized by AIPA.

She obtained her Master of Art in International Relations at the Australian National University (ANU) in 2002, participated in international/regional seminars, workshops and training courses on regional security, multilateral diplomacy, free trade agreements, and on parliamentary roles in implementing sustainable development goals. Recently in 2015 Mrs. Nguyen Tuong Van was sent to study in Havard University and Indiana University (US) in the framework of the joint program organized by the Viet Nam and US for strategic leadership (S-LEAD).
